An active artist throughout the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, James Jarvaise worked in oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting, as well as drawing and mixed media collage. An important voice in the field of abstraction, the artist was widely exhibited in the United States, participating in numerous exhibitions in the country’s major cities. His work can be found in many museums including, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden/Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Carnegie Museum of Art, among others.

 

The James Jarvaise Estate serves to preserve and promote the art and legacy of James Jarvaise.  ​​We encourage and assist museums and other educational organizations to organize and produce exhibitions of and publications on Jarvaise’s work and to create online resources about his art and career. Likewise, we may make loans and gifts of Jarvaise’s art to universities, museums and other public and educational organizations to enhance the public appreciation of Jarvaise’s art.
